5 Minutes With Amy Brock McNew

Another fellow Realmie today! Amy and I were in the same critique group last year at Realm Makers, and as soon as I heard the opening lines of her novel, I knew I had to read it. Luckily for me Amy is a very nice gal and didn’t make me wait until the book was published! I got to be a beta reader/critiquer and paticipated in the cover reveal a couple of months ago. Hi Amy!

Thank you so much for inviting me today!

*Tell us a little bit about yourself/your novel:Facebook-20150910-073111

I’m a crazy busy wife, mom, and mamaw. Though I refuse to completely grow up. I’m incredibly curious. The strange, supernatural, and wonderfully weird fascinate me. Cherry vanilla Coke is an addiction I’m perfectly fine with never overcoming. Oh, and music is my life, aside from books. I cannot tolerate utter silence.

My first novel is Rebirth, the story of a young woman named Liz with a unique gift she sees as a curse. When she stops running and embraces her calling, she gets more than she bargained for. She’s caught in the middle of secrets, lies, a lost love returned, and a mystery man pulling her in the opposite direction of her destiny. Add to that the brutal training she must endure with a contingent of warrior Seraphim and battling vicious demonic forces baying for her blood, and Liz faces more than she thinks she can handle. She must fight the evil around her and at the same time conquer her personal demons.

*What’s the funniest/weirdest thing you’ve ever had to research for a story?

Actually, I haven’t had to research anything I thought was too weird. For this series it’s been mainly demons and angels. Though, researching both can get really interesting. There’s some freaky stuff out there! Like demonic names and descriptions. That’ll make you give the computer screen some strange looks.

*Where do you usually write? Can you show us a picture/describe it?20160504_181403

*Do you have a strange quirk or habit while writing or preparing to write?

Hm. I can’t think of anything super odd. At least to me. So that leaves it kind of open! I do have a certain order in which I set everything up before I sit down to write, though. I have this thing about everything being in its place and if something’s off, it’ll bug me until I fix it.

* Can you give us a hint of where the story is going next?

Ah, fishing for the sneak peek. (*ahem* well, yeah. Of course. 😉 ) Well what I can tell you is there are a lot of surprises in store for Liz. Though there are some exciting things happening in her life, many of these surprises aren’t the kind she’s going to like. Especially when her past comes knocking and bones start falling out of her closet. The story does get darker. A lot darker. You’ll see this as the series progresses. There are moments of humor and of course plenty of romance, so it’s not morose. But The Reluctant Warrior Chronicles deals with some tough issues. It’s all about facing the darkness head on and fighting it with all you have. Sometimes that can make things seem pretty bleak. I think readers will appreciate the battles and the triumphs and identify with them. Hopefully growing along with Liz.

I can’t wait to see where you take the story from here! If you would like to hang out with Amy online, she is on Facebook, Twitter, and her website. Here’s more about Rebirth:

Back Cover Copy:
Liz Brantley has a gift she wants to return. Able to see and fight demonic forces, she has
spent her life alone, battling the minions of hell bent on her destruction, running from the
God who gave her this curse. Drawn to her abilities, the demon Markus unleashes havoc on
her hometown and pulls Liz further into the throes of battle.
She’s desperate for a normal life. When she meets a mysterious man who seems unaware of the mystical realm that haunts her, the life she’s always wanted moves within reach. But her slice of normal slips from her grasp when an old flame, Ryland Vaughn, reappears with secrets of his own. Secrets that will alter her destiny.
Torn between two worlds, Liz is caught in an ancient war between good and evil. And she
isn’t sure which side to choose.

  1. Ooh, this was an awesome interview! I hadn’t heard of Rebirth before but now I’ll have to check it out!! *flails* I LOVE the picture of the author’s writing space (I love those kind of things XD) and her rituals. I’m terrible about rituals when I write too, eheh, I have to have everything EXACTLY SO or I can’t focus at all. But whatever makes the muse come, right?!? ;D

Thanks for stopping by @ Paper Fury!
