Writing Update

* Forged Steel has received final personal edits, and now I’m just waiting for a publisher’s submission period to open so I can submit it. Come to think of it, I should probably be sending it to beta readers while I wait. My family just recently read it, which was a lot of fun, and my brother caught a pretty big error in that I’d written about three people riding in a Corvette–and apparently Corvettes don’t have a back seat for that third person. Oops. But we spent about an hour looking at cool cars online, and eventually settled on a Porsche 911 Carrera. And my sister drew the first piece of fan art for the book, which is totally awesome since it isn’t even published yet. (I know. This is all from my family so it doesn’t really count. Ah well…)

*Darkglass is coming along swimmingly. The story has deepened so much since I first come up with the concept five years ago–I’m so glad I had the chance to just let it sit and simmer for a while. And I already have some edits in mind that will add in a subplot (yay!) and hopefully jack up the word count a bit more. Currently it looks like it will sit at 50-some-thousand, which really isn’t too bad considering.

*I currently have two short stories out to different magazines and two that have been accepted into different anthologies. Keep your eye out for The Tanist’s Wife and Other Stories (alternate history) and Different Dragons Volume II. I also am brainstorming other shorts for several other anthologies, more details which I will share below so that, if you’re so inclined, you can submit to them as well.

*Earlier this year I submitted a story to a contest where the five winners would be invited to co-write a series of novels with Brock Eastman. I was one of the final picks, and we’ve been brainstorming for a few months now. I’m hustling to finish up Darkglass so I can start in on my novels with the group. It’s gonna be fun! Keep an eye out for more new regarding the Netherwind Coming Saga.

*OK, last bit–Falls the Shadow is finally going to be edited! Well, once I finish Darkglass, my co-author Mary Ruth Pursselley finishes final edits to her novel Song of the Wren Falcon (it’s coming out soon! Eeh!) and my other co-author Elynn W. Marshe settles into her new home in Germany. But again, watch for more news on this–I’m really, really excited about what we have planned for our Lost Scribes. đŸ™‚

*OK, writing opportunities.

-First off, this anthology featuring airship pirates is open to submissions. Good long deadline for it, so write away!

This page has several anthologies either open or coming open for submissions soon. There’s fantasy, steampunk, and paranormal, so it covers a gamut of preferences.

-My friend Travis Perry just posted this today on his website. He’s looking for authors to collaborate on an anthology in a medieval society–on terraformed Mars. Sound cool? It really is. Check it out and shoot him an email if you’re interested.

OK, now that I’m done with that bit of self-indulgence, off I go. Have a good day, readers!
