To Start Off

Well, hullo y’all.
Hmm…what to post? First posts are always so difficult. At least, they are for me.
My brother has the gift of being able to march up to anyone, stick his hand out to shake, and introduce himself. My husband has the same talent. I’m afraid I always seem a little rude by comparison, because I tend to hang back. I’m the one at parties who sees a newcomer and thinks, “Oh, please, don’t come near me. Think like the wallpaper…beeeee the wallpaper…”
That’s the first reason first posts are so awkward. The second is because not many people tend to read the first post. You’re probably lucky if anyone reads anything in your first fifty.
I suppose a bit about me is in order…

#1: I am a Christian. This is the most important thing about me, though probably the quietest part of my personality.

#2: I am a wife, and my hubby is the most handsome, funniest, manliest man alive.

#3: I am a mommy of two, baby angel Matty who is a year and a half, and Little T, who is nearly five months at the time of this writing.

#4: I am a writer, which is an all-consuming passion of mine. I can loose myself for hours in a story world, talking to characters, dreaming up situations to get them into (and more often than not, writing myself into a corner while I’m at it), and imagining the beautiful locations. I used to write epic fantasy, but lately my interests have been swinging toward steampunk and urban fantasy. I adore both and, while I’ll probably get back to writing fantasy at some point, don’t miss it too terribly much.

#5: I can get a little obsessed over the following things: my “style”; decorating my house; books; Doctor Who (yeah, I’m one of those nerds); Sherlock; and Pinterest.

#6: I like to be active. Justin and I are currently working out with the Les Mills Pump program, which I love, and we also regularly jet-ski, bike, hike, swim, and rock-climb. Oh yes, and mudding. We love mudding. Justin likes dirt-biking as well, which is something I’d like to get into. In the winter we snowshoe, snowmobile, and down-hill ski. Downhill skiing is the only thing that makes snow bearable here in January-March.

And a couple of random ones to finish things out:

#7: For some reason my writing comes out like I’m this dark, broody, deep-thinking, strange person. Not so. In real life I’m usually an obnoxiously optimistic, sarcastic ray of sunshine.

#8: Tatterdemalion. It’s my favorite word. In case you were wondering why I named the blog that.

OK, I think that’s enough for now. Looking forward to getting to know you all. For now, since I also blog regularly at the New Authors Fellowship, I plan to try to update this blog once or twice a month.
